I read a quote earlier this morning by Elbert Hubbard that said "we awaken in others the same attitude of mind we hold toward them" it made me think of the age-old question, what came first, the chicken or the egg.  Do you affect the attitude energy in your surroundings or does the attitude energy in your surrounding affect you.

21 Thankful Days: April 14, 2017 - Day 20

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful for an evolving sense of peace. While like some people, I occasionally get upset, angry or irritated by circumstances that may occur throughout the day, more frequently than ever before, I find peace in the understanding that things will be ok.

Sometimes I simply accept that things are the way they are supposed to/or need to be and conclude that getting upset is not going to change it or make it any better.   In fact, getting upset likely does more harm to me than good and manages to bring about more negativity and ill feelings in how I act toward others, how they react to me and so on.  It’s just not worth it.

For example, my air conditioner went out on Monday of this week and needed to have the motor replaced. I was thankful I was able to have it repaired and that it didn't go out in June, July or August during the hot Phoenix summer of 100+ degree days where the evenings don't cool.

Yesterday, my refrigerator went out-a board of some kind and the heating element, was what I believe the technician said.  I'm likely going to need a new one given the high cost of parts and labor for an older refrigerator. I was so thankful that the technician that came was so helpful and was able to do a temporary fix to get me to Saturday, so that I can have time to shop or make the choice to have this one repaired.   I lost some food but overall most of it was saved.

Interestingly however, the technician that out shared that in the past 6 months his wife had taken ill will a strange illness, died and was revived twice only to succumb to the illness, then just last month he tragically lost a son.  His very next statement put everything in perspective for me. He said but I have so much joy in my heart.  I just enrolled my 5 year old in kindergarten. Even with my losses, I celebrate joy that is found in every day.  What a blessing he was for me!  If anyone were to have a reason to feel upset or irritated it could easily be him but he was not.  Also, what if I had been irritated, taking my frustrations out on him because of the inconvenience, cost etc.  I might have missed the blessing.   #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful for the amazing opportunity I have had to teach 7th grade English Language Arts.  Through the initial months each days bordered on a nightmare or an episode of the Twilight Zone.  The behavior issues were so challenging that most of the time I didn't feel like I was able to teach because all I was doing was "babysitting," correcting bad behavior, disciplining.  It was hard.  I spoke with friends, family and leadership at church. I recognized that my lack of sound classroom management - at the 7th grade level - was complicating my ability to breakthrough their bad behavior.

First, my sisters, brothers and mother in the faith worked with me to 1) stop calling them bad kids, 2) refer to their behavior as bad, 3) pray over the room/environment, 4) stop and seek the Lords guidance when I felt agitated 5) be much more prepared with the lesson plan that ever before, 6) be consistent with discipline, teaching 7) stop raising my voice 8) implement engagement strategies 9) hold them accountable 10) loop in parents for added accountability for both discipline and classroom behavior.  After about 6 weeks, I would have one good day to four bad ones, until one day there was on bad day to four good ones...to good weeks.

In addition to that, during the 2016-1017 school year, student’s benchmark scores have increased quarter over quarter in both reading and writing.  I have seen notable improvement in their ability to write complete sentences, paragraphs and essays.  Just today, they actually participated in a formal academic debate in the classroom where they demonstrated their knowledge of the AZ standard on tracing and analyzing a claim, its relevance and soundness.  They did all of their debate prep - researching, analyzing and evaluating their data, making the case for pros and cons and then the teams debating.  I was very proud of these young men and women.  Several of the teachers and administrators came in to witness their accomplishment.

When I saw the joy, excitement and accomplishment these students had for this success, I knew that I had received a very special "I can achieve anything" blessing.  I'm certainly thankful I stayed there teaching and did not quit. I may have sown some seeds of accomplishment in them this school year, but more importantly, they have come to know they can achieve anything they want in life. #FullTimeFaculty #Professor#SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful that God continues to show his love, grace and mercy I don't necessarily deserve, in spite of choice I may make in life.  A forgiving God, He allows me to come to him with a pure heart, and ask for forgiveness.   “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” Romans 5:8 NLT   #Choices #PoweredByScripture #WalkingByFaithNotFear #BettingOnMe

21 Thankful Days: April 13, 2017 - Day 19

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful that the headache I had for about 6 hours yesterday finally subsided.  While driving home yesterday, seemingly out of nowhere, I felt a headache coming on and it got progressively worse until I was able to lie down.  it didn't ease until I took medication-which anyone who knows me, knows I don't really like to do.

Also, not being accustomed to frequent headaches, whenever I have gotten one over the past month, it was most commonly attributable to experiencing some level of dehydration.  That was not the case yesterday, I was well hydrated and have really worked to be aware of taking in enough fluids and yesterday was not different.  It was a bad headache...and I'm thankful for the relief. #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful that I received, signed and returned the contracts to teach not only marketing advertising and promotions next term, but also two units of buyer and consumer behavior at Grand Canyon University.  I always wanted to teach at some point professionally and I am so grateful that on the other side of having left the corporate world, I have found what I love doing - teaching, coaching, advising, developing thought - I have found my niche. #FullTimeFaculty #Professor#SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful I have a biological father who loves me and contributed to me having a life on earth- for which I had no choice; a spiritual father in Christ who loves me as his child in the faith and guides my journey through choices in life-for which I was led to and chose; and a father in Heaven who give me grace, mercy, favor, and the gift of eternal life.  I chose you Father “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

21 Thankful Days: April 12, 2017 - Day 18

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful for the opportunity to work and earn an income to live but also to be able to serve in the kingdom. He has provided us dominion over EVERYTHING and as it has been said "to whom much is given, much is expected."  I am thankful He gives me what I need so that I can use it to serve him, spread the good news about Him and advance the cause. #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful that I received a nomination for a humanitarian award for the work I have done over the years helping young adults, women, at risk teen girls and domestic abuse victors. For more than 20 years these causes have been near and dear to my heart. #IServe #Professor#SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful, that because of the blood Jesus shed, I am forgiven.  So many times I've wanted, said, thought to do the right thing, only to fall short.  But God and through Jesus I can go to him and ask for forgivenes.  I continuously strive to do better and be better each and every day But thankfully in my imperfection God always give me his perfect love.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing]; The punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, And by His stripes (wounds) we are healed.”  Isaiah 53:5 ‭AMP‬‬ #PoweredByScripture#WalkingByFaithNotFear#BettingOnMe

21 Thankful Days: April 11, 2017 - Day 17

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful for giving spirit and internal desire to help and nurture others. And while I've had to, at times, learn to be more discerning in administering this special gift, I've also come to understand and appreciate the power in helping others.   #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful for the knowledge, skill and talent that swirls around inside me.  Over the past seven years I haven't always been 100% sure of what I'm supposed to be doing professionally, but I have always known that 100% of what I’m supposed to do, in within me. He has equipped me with everything I need to accomplish all that I need to do. #Professor #SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful God lives within me guiding, teaching, and molding me to “grow up to go up.”  While I may fall short at times, it is my desire to please you with an open, giving and serving heart. “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” Romans 8:11 NLT #PoweredByScripture#WalkingByFaithNotFear#BettingOnMe

21 Thankful Days: April 10, 2017 - Day 16

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful for my commitment to me this morning. Waking, I felt a little lazy and sluggish-not feeling like writing or doing much of anything.  I guess we all have days like that!  In the moments when I got out of bed, I began thanking God for waking me, watching over me, protecting me, caring for me, loving me, comforting me, etc. After that, I knew that I couldn't afford to be lazy because it was time for thanks, joy and getting done the things I needed to…like writing and getting ready for work so that I can earn and income to further his work in the Kingdom.  #HonorCommitments #Live #Love #Laugh #FeelingAccomplished #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful that I created a new digital vision board.  MindMovies are a product I offer through my coaching business.  They allow you to write word, use images, videos and music to create video clips that you can download on your phone or watch on the computer throughout the day to set or reset your mind toward your goals.  Similar cutting and pasting articles, clipping and pictures to a vision board – only digital.  This new one that I created is a series of affirmations set to an upbeat jazz sound.#Professor #SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful for a powerful word yesterday at church. Becoming a better steward of my faith and finances when giving, taught me that it's not just what you give, it's understanding that what you give must be given in faith, thereby releasing the supernatural component of the act of giving – whether it be financial, time, effort-whatever.  It is the “how” that makes the difference. What a revelation of a difference. #PoweredByScripture#WalkingByFaithNotFear

21 Thankful Days: April 9, 2017 - Day 15

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful that I honored my commitment to myself a start hiking regularly again. I woke up early mentally and physically ready for a hike, only to get to the trailhead and not find parking.

There was street parking down the road but in 3 areas along the road there was evidence on the ground that that car windows had been smashed.

Needless to say, I decided to listen to my instincts and move on from that location-vowing to tackle this trail another day-find another and still get my hike in before church. #Live #Love #Laugh #FeelingAccomplished #BettingOnMe

Professional: I am thankful that I was able to put in some hours yesterday working on my Betting On Me website. It's still in soft launch phase but really coming along nicely. I am looking for to full launch and having the opportunity share, connect, inspire and celebrate with many. #Professor #SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful for this incredibly amazing morning. Sitting out on my back patio, I look out to an amazing and bountiful blue sky, I hear the sounds of birds chirping and whistling as they are going about their morning chores and in the midst, wind chimes are playing their most melodic and soothing sounds as a light breeze acts as fingers strumming chords.

From God’s hands to my heart. Yes, my God is Awesome! ‬‬#PoweredByScripture #WalkingByFaithNotFear #BettingOnMe

Spiritual:  I am thankful for my family as well as my brothers and sisters in the faith.  They help, guide, nudge and hold me accountable for my actions as well as my ongoing spiritual growth. Supportive of my choices in life, they never allow me to stay stuck because of ill choice's or have any uncertainty about God or His purpose for my life. 21 Thankful Days: April 7, 2017 - Day 13

Today I am thankful:

Personal: I am thankful that I didn't give up on life when times were difficult, hard or seemingly insurmountable. My experience is not unlike others in that I have had some challenging times in my life.  I've come to understand, however, that life's journey is filled with many twists and turns, ups and downs, etc. and through it all, the only thing I can truly control is my response-the action(s) I choose to take-how I choose to receive it.

Equipped with the knowledge and belief that things in life occur to guide me, align me, correct me or redirect me, I know that it may not always “feel” good, but because I have faith and believe in Him, I know that iit is always for my good. #ForMyGood #Respect #Live #Love #laugh #BettingOnMe #Recharge #JoyInAForgivingHeart #Obedience

Professional: I am thankful for new appointment I received yesterday and the the opportunity to serve on the GCU Faculty Advisory Board. I don't know all that is involved but I accept how God is aligning me, guiding me and preparing me for where I may be able to impact, affect and contact others in service to Him #SupernaturalElevation #Favor #Professor #SixSigmaGreenBelt #Author #Teacher #Mentor #VisionayCoachingWorkshop #AustinGroupConsulting

Spiritual: I am thankful that through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, I am saved and through him, I have the opportunity to love, honor and praise God. I love that he gives me the choice to serve him. Like Jonah, I always choose Him, but I may not always be obedient to Him. In spite of my disobedience He still loves and protect me from my bad choices. What an awesome God! “For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.”
